Over the last ten years, the "Riddim Full of Culture" sessions have seen some serious Reggae acts from the UK & Jamaica performing in Cornwall and this year is no exception, as YLP & LRF Music hook up once again with the Barracuda, Newquay, on July 1 st , to present LUCIANO & THE JAH MESSENJAH BAND - live on stage for the only southwest UK date of their European tour.
Hailed as one of the most influential Reggae vocalists to come out of Jamaica since Bob Marley , Luciano , the Messenjah ', is a major figure in the development of modern roots reggae. Since his debut; It's Me Again Jah in 1995, for Jamaican producer Fatis Burrell 's Xterminator label, his presence in contemporary Jamaican music, sustained by a prolific output of consistently well received singles & albums, has seen him emerge as one of the most important reggae singers in decades and the greatest hope for roots reggae in the digital dancehall era.

Cited alongside artists including, the late , Garnett Silk , Buju Banton , Everton Blender and Morgan Heritage , Luciano helped steer reggae music away from the extremes of slackness & gun-talk that threatened to overwhelm Jamaican dancehall during the late 80s. By the 1990s a significant shift had taken place as a new generation of singers emerged seeking a suitable platform for those who would rather sing about cultural concerns than rude boys or materialism and leaving no doubt that digital instrumentation was compatible with more traditional values in Jamaican music.
Delivering uniquely radiant songs, with a luxuriant, near operatic, vocal gift, Luciano has produced a body of work that supplies convincing evidence of a major talent. For the unfamiliar; much of his material has been modern cultural music with a pronounced spirituality, although he is clearly at home with traditional lovers. Drawing on influences from Frankie Paul (the Jamaican Stevie Wonder), Dennis Brown , to Gospel and R'n'B, his righteous cuts have a gentle, reflective feel about them, driven by infectious rhythms with insinuating hooks and showing all the signs of classics in the making

Once you've seen Luciano live, you've witnessed roots reggae at its most exhilarating .
Warming up the live proceedings on the night, YLP & LRF are also proud to introduce ETANA , VP Records' hot new signing for 2008.
In just one short year, Etana has established a powerful presence in a largely male-dominated industry. A spirited and soulful singer/songwriter and arguably the most prolific female vocalist in contemporary Reggae, this eloquent, enchanting, empress has been hailed as one of the sensational new sounds in roots reggae.

Her approach to communicating inspirational messages to the youth has brought plaudits from critics as someone able to bring about real change with her powerful and captivating voice. Rebellious in her approach to denote systematic oppression against all races, Etana feels strongly that her responsibility as a recording artist is to express positive vibrations in her music. Her musical testimonies are as edifying as they are captivating; fusions of Jazz and Reggae and a mix of African and Reggae cultural influences and sounds fused with Jamaican Creole can be heard in her first two releases; Wrong Address and Roots
To catch her in performance, is to experience an intriguing mix of the sultry and meditative
Luciano's latest Album; Jah Is My Navigator is out now on VP Record's, available from all major retailers
Etana is currently promoting her new singles Warrior Love and I Am Not Afraid , taken from her debut album The Strong One , also out now on VP Record's and available from major retailers
